The prototype of this model was the first high performance sailplane built by Schweizer Aircraft Corporation and was the first production sailplane in the world to have water-ballast tanks.
The prototype flown by Dick Comey won the 1947 National Soaring
Contest. The 1-21 set many records. Only two were built.
